We copper-plated an inductive prox - guess what happened...

Years ago, someone (who shall remain nameless) told me that copper plating would solve a huge problem in the industry - preventing weld slag and spatter buildup on sensors. That got me thinking:
Could an Inductive Proximity Sensor be electroplated with copper? Would the sensor still work? Could the copper plating prevent molten splash and slag from fusing onto it? Why was copper plating not used by sensor manufacturers? Was this guy a kook?
See the results and judge for yourself:
AFTER PLATING A STAINLESS STEEL SENSOR:
AFTER TESTING WITH OTHER COMMON "WELD-IMMUNE" SENSORS:
Notice the molten blobs stuck to the face of the middle copper sensor? Not only that, but all the other weld immune "coated" sensors have blobs stuck to them.
I think this was day we decided to develop ACTIVSTONE!
